I have tried the raw food diet a few times in the past (but for short spurts) but have finally decided that i'm fed up with havng no energy and I want to go raw. I have joined LJ as i think writing a blog and a community of others on the diet will help me stay focused!
I'm Victoria and I was browsing around LJ for "organic" groups. I know it's rather broad, but I'm glad I found some potentially good groups. The low-down on me was that 3 months ago I was stuffing my face with fast food juicey hormone injected burgers and downing gallons of cokes and loads of snicker bars like there wasn't a tomorrow, but tomorrow did come...in a different sense. In the back of my mind I thought that tomorrow I would start eating right or tomorrow I would workout, but many times tomorrow never came.
However, it all changed when I came back to the states from my month long enlightening journey in China and my rainforest adventure in Costa Rica. I wouldn't know how to best describe it, only that those trips seriously changed my life and now I noticed that I brought back a lot of the customs particularly in eating manners and lifestyle choices.
I think I've become more open to things around me and I feel more complete and less depressed. I'm glad the transition is going well because my best friend is vegan and she's really supporting me in my choices to eat healthier and to swing by the farmer's market more often than I do wal-mart. Like I said, it's something new to me and I love it! So I just wanted to say HI and maybe I will see you in other groups I'm checking out.
I'd love to hear some advice too. I recently, in fact today I made my very first batch of homemade soy milk straight from the seed to drink and it took me while to strain it all out, but it was definately worth it. I also have been planting some veggies with organic mix and I'll be getting a pound of wheatgrass seeds so I can start juicing. :)
Thank you and have a nice day!
I just ordered a book from amazing called SUPERFOODS rx, does anyone have that book? And would you recommend any other books to start off with?
if anyone can help me out with a few questions, i would appreciate it more than you know..
1. birth control..i don't really want to start taking birth control for reasons such as the fact that the idea is unnatural to me and i don't want to lower my libido, however if i do plan on taking birth control, would it be a bad idea if i want to be 100% raw?
2. supplements...should i continue taking my vitamins and supplements? i take biotin, fish oil, MSM, silica, sage, damiana leaves..
3. i'm sure that detox period varies for individuals..but have any of you had a rather long detox period?
THANK YOU in advance

I got my favorite Raw book ever, Raw Food Real World. It is gorgeous and it really inspired me. The authors talk about how they initially decided to just go Raw for 2 weeks but they got so into it they never went back. Well I was thinking I could do anything, so I decided to see if I could pull a 2 week stint myself. I'm going for 98%, basically everything raw with maybe some cooked condiments, spices, things like that. The last stretch I had was 4 days, and before that 10, and before that 10 (I think) and before THAT 70 (back in '99). Anyway I'm tired of putting it off so hopefully this will be it. No pressure or anything.
x-posted to a lot of raw communities
P.S. if anyone would like to be friends, just comment! I'd love to talk to more raw foodies out there.
